/collections/antiques-vintage Video Translation: Hi, this is Jennifer with City Farmhouse Antiques and I am here with this week's find of the week. This week I have a very old and beautiful piece of advertising and tobacciana history. This piece is actually 104 years old and and is an antique match safe. This was made by the famous maker Shreve and Co. out of San Francisco, California and would have been used as an advertising piece or a gift at Christmas to an agent in 1915. There you can see that it is dated 1915. This piece has a bronze hammered appearance on the outside and a sterling embossed or high relief picture of a firefighter. It says here Fireman's Fund Christmas Greetings and it has the insurance company there on the right side. It measures about 2 1/2 inches by 1 3/4 inches. It has an antique patina that is beautiful. These are just very old one of a kind pieces that are great as gifts. Tobacciana or tobacco products like humidors, pipes, or match safes are highly collectible today. You can see this match safe could have clipped onto something or been carried on a chain with this loop. The clasp is very tight. It still opens up. I can't do it with one hand to show you. Anyway, a beautiful piece of history and you can see the firefighter saving a child in his arms from the fire. This is a really neat piece of American history and a great gift for someone that collects antiques, antique advertising memorabilia, tobacciana pieces, or for the firefighter in your life.
