Find our entire antique glass collection. Video transcription: Hi, this is Jennifer with City Farmhouse Antiques. Remember those beautiful antique glass candlesticks I had from the last video? I decided to see if they would fluoresce in the dark to test for Vaseline glass. These antique candlesticks are definitely Vaseline glass. So what is Vaseline glass? It is glass that has uranium in it. Uranium makes the glass fluoresce under a black light. You have to use a black light to test for uranium. There are other types of glass like Burmese glass or Custard glass that have a yellow tint to them, but they are not translucent. When you look at these pieces up close you can see how translucent the yellow is on these pieces. What a nice little surprise to share with you. I thought it would be fun to do a quick follow up video to explain how to test for Vaseline glass. The next time you pick up an antique piece of glass with green or yellow undertones, maybe even one you have at home in your showcase, you can test it with a blacklight and see what you find. Hope you learned something today from this video.
