How to Polish Antique Silver

Find our entire glass collection. Video Transcription: Hey, this is Jennifer here with City Farmhouse Antiques and look at these gorgeous antique glass candlesticks I just got in. There are the holes for the candles. They have each been etched with a floral and butterfly design. They also have these beautiful prisms hanging off each one. They probably stand between 12 - 15 inches tall. I have not measured them yet. They are absolutely magnificent. There is a bullicante glass bubble and then each candlestick is footed in sterling silver. I was going to use this as an opportunity to show you how to polish silver. Some people are afraid to collect silver antiques because they are afraid to polish them. It is so easy to polish silver. I start with a pair of gloves. I use this simichrome polish. The key is to use a very soft cloth when polishing. This is the one I use so you can see it is dirty with tarnish all over it. You just use a little bit of the polish. As you can see I am doing this again one handed. See that is all it takes. I work the polish into my cloth. You simply wipe it on the silver. It doesn't require a lot of elbow grease. You are going to take that tarnish right off. It is important to take the polish off right away to keep the piece looking nice especially out of crevices. You can go back over your silver with a clean soft cloth to take off any residual polish. When your cloth gets too much tarnish on it just get a new one.
